Charged convenience fees to pay your mortgage?

May 25, 2020

mortgage payment fee

Many people prefer to pay their mortgages online or over the phone, but many banks are charging convenience fees for this service. It seems likely that more people will choose to pay in this way, given the social distancing that is becoming common practice with the advent of COVID-19. As a result of the increase in demand for these remote payments, credit providers may well start to charge these “pay-to-pay” fees on a larger scale. However, under both federal and Florida state law, these fees may actually be illegal.

What do illegal convenience fees mean for you?

If you have been paying convenience fees on your mortgage payments, it is likely that you have been paying for something that your bank has no right to charge you for. You could qualify to join a class action lawsuit against your credit provider and claim compensation for these unnecessary and illegal fees.

If you believe you may be among the growing numbers of people who have the right to claim fees back from their banks, the first thing to do is to approach a mortgage attorney, discuss the details of your case and determine whether you either qualify to join an existing class action, or to open up a new case against your bank.
