False Labeled CBD Supplements

CBD or Cannabidiol is the famous wellness product of the moment and there is no doubt that it is quite effective and efficient too! If you live in a place where CBD is legal, you will notice that it seems to be all around. Coffee shops are selling CBD lattes, cosmetic companies are rushing to launch products with CBD or hemp oils in their formulas. Every person around you suffering from even the tiniest ailment- be it anxiety or even arthritis, wants to get their hands on a few CBD gummies. But, don’t be fooled by the False Labeled CBD Supplements on the shelves of your favorite supplement store or dispensary.

CBD comes from the cannabis plant which consists of two things – CBD and THC. The non-psychoactive part of the plant is CBD which is used for its medicinal properties to give you a feeling of calm and relaxation without causing euphoria. THC on the other hand is psychoactive.

Paying close attention to all the factors, the federal government is moving slowly and steadily when it comes to regulating and testing the purity of CBD products. Many states and even the hemp industry itself have begun regulating CBD products to ensure safety.

False labeled CBD supplements

Owing to its growing popularity, a number of false labeled CBD supplements have also entered the market place. Back in 2017, in the emergency rooms of Salt Lake City, approximately 30 people were treated for seizures, anxiety, loss of consciousness and confusion after taking a pill that said it contained CBD. When tested, it was confirmed that the pills contained some dangerous synthetic cannabidoil and did not have actual CBD! Other CBD products have found to have dextromethorphan, a component of a cough medicine that teens generally use to get high.

While False labeled CBD supplements continues to be a matter of concern, the presence of excessive THC is another problem. THC is the component in marijuana that gives you that high feeling. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), a researcher in Virginia discovered that the liquid used for vaping contained a very dangerous synthetic cannabidiol that is known to cause panic attacks, convulsions, heart attacks and even death.

Aren’t the products tested and verified?

CBD oil products are generally not tested on a regular basis and are not entitled to rules and regulations that require testing. A testing company recently revealed that many supplements and products that advertised as CBD products or claimed to contain CBD have little or no CBD at all. Moreover, many of the CBD oil products are actually false labeled CBD supplements.

Other impurities too might be a part of unregulated CBD products

In the past few years, supplements in the market have shown the presence of inactive ingredients that are known to cause allergic reactions and might affect some people. Houseplants, asparagus, rice powder etc. have all been found in supplements that are not regulated. These fillers may be found in cannabidiol based products too, which includes edibles, liquids, capsules and gummies too.

Why did CBD products come into legal existence?

CBD has shown commendable health benefits, without the high feeling that comes with use of marijuana. Along with treating children with epileptic seizures, CBD has also been used to treat anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, acne, heart disease and depression. That is the reason the use of CBD came into legal existence.

How much THC is allowed to be used?

Hemp is another rich source of CBD as it contains more of CBD and very little THC, making it a good source of the latter. Hemp derived CBD oil is allowed to contain not more than 0.3 percent of CBD, otherwise it is considered as marijuana which is still illegal in many states as of today.

Even if a business does not possess the hemp authority symbol, it should be able to produce a certificate of analysis, a document from a recognized, accredited lab that explains and breaks down the quantity of CBD in a product. This would help the cause against False Labeled CBD supplements and give the consumer a sense of trust when making a purchase.

False Labeled CBD Supplements vs. THC Levels

Colorado makes it a point to that any CBD products added to food test below the allowed THC levels i.e. 0.3 percent. The growers of Oregon test their CBD extracts of the hemp plant for CBD and THC levels and also the pesticides and chemicals that might be used to procure the CBD. Vermont is working on developing a program to test products for false labeled CBD supplements, THC and other contaminants. The state is working on methods to verify that the hemp products are grown and processed in Vermont itself to reduce the use of synthetic elements and exposure to contaminants and THC.
